Jim has called off the the recommendation for Common locations however, I can't leave "bad information" unresponded to:

I can assure you that, regardless of SLC's reputation as a "dry" Mormon enclave, it is quite the opposite. That view works to our advantage in keeping this place relatively free of undesirables like Californian's, however it does force the Salt Lake visitors bureau to work overtime to dispel the "urban legend" that we are some backward backwater of the west and to attract large conventions to the city (largest is the Outdoor Retailers show). Our mayor has taken the "external" media on club/bar hopping tours to prove the point and we have two excellent local breweries (Squatters and Wasatch) and two micro breweries (Red Rock and Bohemian). Perhaps you have heard of "Polygamy Porter" ? ("Why have just one?" and "Take some home to the wives" are their tag lines).

But even beyond local suds factories: 2 1/2 hours west you can gamble away your life's savings in Wendover, 1/2 hour in any direction will put you on the "Greatest Snow on Earth" (if the conference is scheduled Nov - April), 3 hours south you can be in "Mountain biking heaven" in red rock country and Arches National Park (Moab). 3 hours to Yellowstone. 5 hours to the Grand Canyon. Or, you can just hang in the city and see opera, world class theater or enjoy the symphony. You might take in a Utah Jazz game, a Grizzlies hockey game, Stingers baseball or Real, the new MLS soccer club.

A little bit of everything for everybody and you can definitely get beer, wine and even "the hard stuff" almost anywhere and practically in every restaurant. SLC is the best kept secret in my mind, it just works against us when it comes to attracting temporary populations (such as conferences). Worked for getting us the Olympics. Perhaps that will meet Common's standards.....

Isn't Salt Lake City dry or something?>
