You've missed out on a big part of the "COMMON experience" if you haven't been a part of the tech teams and dealing with the various factions associated with the facilities. I'll never forget the facilities debrief meeting in Reno where the hotel guy told COMMON not to bother even trying to come back because "you computer nerds don't spend enough money in the casino". Vegas feels the same way about our older, more conservative attendee traveling on a limited budget. Other conferences can get away with going there because of their sheer size and the fact that their attendees tend to be younger folks on their first trip to Vegas. They're a lot more inclined to pursue the kind of fun Vegas is selling. Another point is that a lot of the techno-geek conferences are sponsored by big corporations and are not a primarily self-funded user group. Remember, we are just a computer user group. When that was forgotten 10 or 12 years ago, COMMON started on its downward spiral.
