I would also point out that yes, changes happen over time. Fortunately for us IBM keeps these changes mild and possible. We are never confronted with sudden and huge changes. Even when IBM decides to make huge changes, like RPGIV, and ILE, they do it in such a way as to drag us along without crippling us. How long has the conversion to RPGIV taken so far? Eight years and still not complete? --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Date: 06/16/05 21:12:27 To: 'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion' Subject: RE: RPGIII compiler vs Visual Basic > From: James Rich > > The reality is simple: we had a working system on V3R7 that didn't work > on V5R3. In order to make it work we had to change some things. Not tons > of things, but some. I'm not bitching, just pointing out our experience > earlier this week. Now tell me, why do I deserve to be flamed over it? I wasn't flaming, I'm just tired of people dragging in red herrings. My point was simple: OS/400 and particularly RPG has a much higher protection of your investment than Windows. Not 100%, but MUCH, MUCH, MUCH higher than Windows. Yeah, the deflector shields crack was less than charitable. But my less than charitable replies tend to come when people willfully ignore what I'm saying and post "arguments" that don't even address the point. Heck, even with this last post you didn't even bother to answer the question: how many RPG programs needed to change? The answer of course is none, which was my point.
