We have a lot of journal receivers that are very large, how are these
maintained? Do they clear them selves after a system save, or do I have
to
run something to clear/archive them?
<end snip>

Journal receivers will not delete themselves unless you have them
configured as system managed. If you are using an HA product be very
careful not to just delete the receivers. Also you cannot delete attached
receivers. When you delete the receiver you may get a message that the
receiver has not been saved. You should be able to answer the message
with an "I" to ignore.
