Just a thought, but how about this? We are purchasing Aldon's Community Manager product, which keeps its data in SQL Server. If, for reasons currently unknown to me, we wanted to generate a report that used this data and some of our iSeries data, we would want to write that report in RPG instead of spending the time to learn another programming language. By the way, I've heard similar questions from my bosses over the years about why a function needs this or that capability. The answer is that more flexibility is almost (note the "almost") always better than less. It's like walking through the woods with a snake bite kit. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Donald R.
