Anyone want to guess what IBM will charge to migrate a package like
Enterprise Extender off of the mainframe Z-OS on to i5/OS?
Anyone want to try to justify this price to their management, versus what
little it will cost to migrate off of SNA on to ethernet?

RE: Death of SNA?

It's not dead. While support of direct SNA will be dropped; you could
still use SNA applications via the yet to be released "Enterprise Extender
for iSeries" product.

>From what I've read the Enterprise Extender product has been popular on
the mainframe side for a while now, and will be ported to the iSeries for
those unable to modify/replace their SNA applications.

"The second option to consider for migrating from an SNA to a TCP/IP based
infrastructure is Enterprise Extender technology. Enterprise Extender is a
protocol that allows SNA application data to be transported across a
TCP/IP network, without changing the existing SNA applications. Enterprise
Extender is also commonly referred to as High Performance Routing over
Internet Protocol (HPR over IP) support."
