Are you sure about that? I'd guess that what you are probably after is amount of space used by the objects in a directory. The disk space used by the directory itself is just the amount of space used for the list of objects in the directory and certain attributes (depending on what FS you are talking about. Though the directory is thought of as an objects container....it really doesn't contain the objects themselves. Unless the FS implementation tracks the total size of objects in a given directory and all it's subdirectories (and I don't know of such a FS), you'll have to walk the tree. Windows Explorer walks the tree, you can see that happening when you right click on, for example, the \WINDOWS directory.
