Scale Interface

I have a client that wants to replace their existing old terminals with
thin clients - but there is one problem. The person that did the
interface to the scales in the shipping department was let go. I am
wanting to know if anyone has interfaced with a scale before? I know
it's connected to the serial port, but how do I direct commands to the
scale to read the weight?

We are changing out the terminal and scanners. The current configuration
uses a PSC 5310IP4302 scanner with a Compsee QL501 interface connecting
to an NCI 7880 scale.
