Reeve, Would it not time to show the source of the DSPF? Beside the KEEP in the window defining record format, I would use USRRSTDSP as well. Check also unnecessary use of OVERLAY; it should only be in the SFLCTL record format. Opening and closing will give a black background the next time the window is opened, it is normal behaviour. Forgetting the DUMMY record format with ASSUME will also clear the background.
