My experience with overlays has been that they are more trouble than they
are worth. We ended up abandoning overlays, AFP, and IPDS altogether and
using postscript. With help from this list it ended up being not too
hard. And the results are wonderful. And we got a great side benefit of
being able to convert the resulting postscript to pdf automatically. This
is something that people found really useful since now they could email
the reports in all their glory.
But if you stick with overlays and AFP, I found that using Microsfot Word
to create the overlay always results in problems. We discovered that
using openoffice instead always created the overlay correctly. I don't
