        I guess I should have RTFM first.  It seems that the command is
designed to generate the output the way it does.  I'm going to have to
use SQL to get the data I want from the files.

        I've been trying to use the RTVDIRINF command to generate a
database file containing the IFS directory information.  When I open the
files it generates I see that the directory names are in ASCII but the
other fields are in EBCDIC.  I find this incredibly useless.  What is
going on?
