There are many ways to architect a solution.  A type 4 JDBC driver would
allow you to connect directly from a Java program on the iSeries to the
remote database.  You could also write a java program that runs off the
iSeries that the Java Toolbox to broker requests to the database via *DTAQ
objects.

You could use JDBC to get the information. I would probably write a
sockets program for both sides, or use MQ Series.
