Re: IGEL Thin Clients

In a more generic sense, can anyone think of any issues where subfile type
displays may cause problems for users in one emulator compared to another
emulator?

We had no trouble with the IBM 5250 emulation that we used for years with
the Netvista 2200 thin clients and are having a fair number of the session
crashes occur
on the same displays/applications running within Powerterm.  We are working
with IGEL support on things from the thin client/Powerterm side, but I want
to find out
any other ideas that will get us on a path to figuring this one out!

We have recently implemented some IGEL based thin clients that are based on
a flash chip added to our older IBM Network Station 2200s.  For the most
part, things have worked ok, but now we are seeing a number of problems
with the way that the Powerterm 5250 Emulation is working.  We have a
number of users that are working within a session and suddenly the session
is gone... the user's interactive job also disappears immediately from the
system side and is gone from the subsystem.  This typically occurs when a
user is keypunching, or paging up or down within a subfile type screen.

In addition, the screen refresh speed within Powerterm seems very slow and
is especially a problem with displays that update the screen in a rapid
function (think of a utility that scans through a number of files and shows
each file at the bottom of the screen as it scans, or the responses from a
ping command).  These types of functions can now take a number of minutes
to complete (5,10, etc.) rather than well under a minute.

I'm interested to talk with some users that may be using IGELs (either the
Network Station upgrades or the full IGEL clients), and also to see if
anyone is seeing any similar issues with Powerterm.

In comparison, we ran the IBM Network Stations (now have been unsupported
for several years) on this same hardware with the IBM emulator and never
experienced either issue.
