Good info... things have defintely changed with this on the i5's. I believe the current firmware update is more like SF220_75... so you may want to go after that one instead, but I think SF220_51 worked on our development box for the UPS issue. I found this on IBM web. http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.nsf/1ac66549a21402188625680b0002037e/34af6804d80c8a8586256ef1006c9d12?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,ups Document Title Connecting a UPS to an IBM® eServer(tm) i5 System Document Description Required fix: Model 520 systems must have fix level SF220_51 or higher. Required cable: Before connecting a UPS to your model 520 or model 570 IBM® eServer(tm) i5 system, you will need a UPS cable converter - feature code 1827 - part number 97P4299. (At some point, UPS manufacturers may provide the converter cables with the UPS or they may provide a UPS sensing cable that will not need the converter, but for now FC1827 can be ordered from IBM.) Referring to the following diagram, connect side B of the serial to UPS converter cable (with the external threads) to the top port on the back of your system. Connect side A of the serial to UPS converter cable (with the internal threads) to the vendor supplied UPS cable. For the model 570 and rack mounted model 520: Connect the UPS sensing cable to the top serial port (the serial ports are located on the back of the system unit to the far left). For the desktop model 520: Connect the UPS cable to the right serial port (the serial ports are located on the back of the system unit at the very top). We have a rack mounted model and it's the top serial port, which is labeled 'T2'. I'm not sure how they're oriented on a standalone model. Be aware that some PTFs and/or firmware updates may be required to get the machine's firmware up to the correct level so that it will detect the cable. On one of our 520s we needed to power down the system after updating the firmware and actually remove power to the 520 for several minutes in order to get the firmware updated completely before the cable's presence would register (per IBM's suggestion after the cable still wouldn't register). Also, there is a short 'conversion' cable from IBM that you will need with the 520... it attaches to the T2 serial port and then to your UPS cable. IBM's hardware support group is getting pretty familiar with these items now, but the first few calls took a while! ;) "Jan Rockstedt" <jan.rockstedt@av inova.se> To Sent by: "Midrange Systems Technical midrange-l-bounce Discussion" s@xxxxxxxxxxxx <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc 03/02/2005 05:15 Subject AM Port for UPS on i520 Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@midra nge.com> Hi!
