Yes you can.  Though often you have to load an extra freebie for Word to 
recognize RFT.  Comes straight from the Word install media.  But maybe I 
date myself.

What kind of documents are they?
If they are word-processing docs that were saved as revisable-form text 
(RFT), you can open them in Word, IIRC...
