We have the when to inplace now. We currently send messages to our operator
cellphone. But he says that he is in a location where sometime he does not get
the text message that the backup has failed.

Most of them accept email. If so, then you could use SNDDST to test. You
might have to go into WRKDIRE and use F19 to set up a valid email account.

There are times when the email is not an accepted method. That is for a
few situations like disk exceeding threshold. At that time, the system
automatically shuts down SMTP to slow the fill of disk space. You might
want to then look at paging software. Byteware is very popular, along
with ROBOT, LXI and a host of others. I had a very bad experience with
LXI and Arch if I had it to do all over again I'd go with Byteware.
There's a lot more to these packages other then the actual send. Like
what message queues to monitor, which messages to ignore, other situations
to page for, etc.

How do you send a message to a pager from the AS/400?
