Rob, You took the words out of my mouth, almost... I was going to suggest the person re-architect their apps such that they use DB2 tables and SQL and get away from flat files as that's the way things are going anyway. For the most part, locking is not an issue if you put in your application to use record-level locking on UPDATEs; easy to program and let the database lock manager worry about locking. I know re-arcitecting is not a slam-dunk but its not rocket science either. I also believe IBM has some methodologies to help you move to real relational. Dave Odom
