In the past, I have successfully added field(s) to the end of a record
format by:

1) Add the field in the DDS
2) CHGDBF LVLCHK(*NO) utilizing the changed source
3) Compile all the programs using that file
4) CHGDBF LVLCHK(*YES)
5) Do whatever application logic is required to actually make use of the new
field(s)

Now I want to do just the opposite. I want to _remove_ the last field in
the record format, which is no longer used. Can't I basically do the
reverse?

1) Make sure the field is no longer referenced anywhere
2) Remove the field from the DDS
3) CHGDBF LVLCHK(*NO) utilizing the changed source
4) Compile all the programs using that file
5) CHGDBF LVLCHK(*YES)

Has anyone ever done this? It seems to me it should work. Thanks.
