Booth,

Not only can you map a NT server drive to the i5, but clients as well. 
Just did that today for a project.  But that was W2K (or xp?) and not NT. 
Also, the i5 should be able to create a share, via iSeries Navigator, and 
have the NT server or client write directly to it as well.
I did a cpyfrmimpf where the source drive was 
'/qntc/davesPC/davesShare/davesFile.csv' ...

directly to the IFS so he can write to it directly and not need to copy
