It can also be better. With our 520 I received all the CD's. There is a sticker on the box (a rack model) telling me which port is where. All hardware was already in the box. Preload was not complete, only bare essentials where loaded. PTF's not in the package (but a letter explaining it) Installation instruction on the hardware-cd (like information centre for the software) License key forms included and a letter telling where to find them on the Web. Multiple PTF packages worked like a charm. Only on the Dutch version the Y of Yes will be a J of Ja, while the screen is telling to use a Y for Ja. Same story goes for a 550 with 2 expansion racks. All in separate boxes, you need the Hardware CD to connect it all. LPAR hardware not in right slots but somewhere in the racks, I had to move iit to the right slots. Once connected bare i5/OS is installed on the one (1) LPAR that's defined. HMC see hardware CD. So if you are installing find the Hardware CD in your package or on the internet and have fun. =================================================== Met vriendelijke groet, Inter Access BV Eduard van den Braken Technisch Consultant iSeries =================================================== The information contained in this message may be confidential and is intended to be exclusively for the addressee. The very small 520's sold by business partners seem to come like a stock item. We added an additional disk drive & raid controller to the standard config. So when box arrives, they are not already installed, but in separate parts boxes (to be user or bp or CE installed (for a fee)). I had no problem with that & bp had given me notice it would be that way. Again IBM is changing install docs. I found the unpacking docs, and a Starting Here doc that sent me to Info Center, but could find no clear starting instructions. I did find the cabling instructions - but again not to clear. The ethernet ports (there were 2 ports, very strangely labelled with symbols) - i guessed right & plugged in. Twinax controller card on back had no feature# label..... but it seemed the only choice avail. BP left the UPS conversion cable off final order - now ordered and coming later. No real instructions for power up (i could find)- so i cabled the twinax console (old customer-this is the only twinax device in the building), and powered on. No problems. Preloaded software never prloads all the options we use - so added them. Client Access license key arrived, and a letter saying thanks for ordering a product, but no CD and CD not on packing slips. I already knew this, but cume ptfs no longer come with system. Machine preload for i5 ordered in Dec came with not current (272) but prev cume installed. I had ordered via phone cume & groups (after several moments of support persons not understanding us english, and my not understanding their version, and then their not knowing what a "ptf" is). I did ptf opt 8 to load cume & groups, but found new option select "2" to load multiple groups not working. Kept asking for next cd in a group, when that group was done, and should have of asked for next group. 3 attempts, gave up and loaded cume first w/no ipl, then opt 8 for each group. Last group Y to ipl. Not live yet, but getting there. No compatible tape drive to old system so am ftp'ing everything over. jim franz -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
