The breakage was less than I expected, although the software vendor who "demanded" that IBM expand the library list from 25 to 250 does not support it to this day!. Too much stuff will break. The only way that were able to slip a V2 to us is that it came after the collating sequence after R03M00. Anyway, I don't see that happening for 10 years or so. Not true, but that's the perception. Point 1: i5OS, or OS/400, or whatever the heck you want to call it is really an extension of CPF. Point 2: Many software vendors assume that the "next release" of any OS will be higher in the collating sequence than the prior release. This means that changing from V9R9M9 to V1R1M0 will not be as simple a process as just loading a new release. It will have to coincide with some major system event, such as changing from CPF to OS/400, or CISC to RISC. I don't see a way around this.
