I haven't used OPNQRYF in a while (switched to SQL) but my understanding is 
that it used the same engine that SQL uses.  Because creating logical path 
improved SQL performance I would think it would also improve OPNQRYF 
performance.

If you are going to create the logical files I would omit the OPNQRYF command.  
In that situation it would be duplication.  Use OVRDBF to specify which logical 
to use for each program call.
