1)  Keep your upgrade, and your ptf's, in two different image catalogs. No 
big deal to LODIMGCLG OPTION(*UNLOAD), load the new one and fire away.
2)  As far as how to upgrade from the image catalog, RTFM.  It's in there.

Image catalog






We are upgrading our 820 from V5R2 to V5R3 and want to use the image
catalog.  I have done PTF's this way and understand how to create the 
image
catalog, add entries from CD and load it.  But I have 2 questions on the
process.  First, can one load the Cume, and groups into the same image
catalog as the upgrade CDs?  Second question, how does one start the 
upgrade
process from the image catalog?
