I had a similar situation 2 weeks ago. I unloaded the drive while the PTF
process was going on the CUM install. I began receiving errors on media for
the CD on restart. I also called IBM and they had me clean the CD's and
restart the install using GO PTF option 8. No problems. The cum installed
OK.

Subject: Cume Load Problem...

Just heard from a friend on V5R2. He was in early today installing the
latest Cume package (8 CD's) and was on the 3rd CD when he walked away for a
minute. In that time an operator came by and saw the request to load next
volume or whatever and thought it was for there optical device and hit F3.
So my friend tried to figure out what that did and ended up calling IBM.
They had him execute CHKPRDOPT on 5722SS1 and he got errors all over the
place. They said try restoring something from the last SAVSYS but that
wouldn't work and he was unsure when this "damage" occurred so was leery
that the SAVSYS could be a problem.

So he gets to come in the weekend and do a slip install from original media.
He is a former IBM CE and is VERY good (he was ours for years and I trusted
him completely) so has done the slip install a ton of times in the past.

This person also told him you should always to the CHKPRDOPT command before
any update (?)

Anyone heard of anything like this ?

Thanks !

Chuck
