I'm trying to set the option number equal to the position of the record
in the view. Assuming that I am going to use the option number from the
file, then I have to update the number. One way I know of doing this is
UPDATE FILE SET OPTION = RRN(FILE), which will set the option number
equal to the relative record number. But that presupposes that I've
sorted the file physically.

Perhaps the question that will work for you is this: Is there another
way to assign sequential numbers based on an arbitrary view to a file
that has already been populated?
