I remember a few years ago my company had an AS/400 that was built 
overseas
and, so, it had a serial number that did NOT begin with 10.  Problem was
that IBM had recorded in their records that our system's serial number 
*did*
begin with 10!  The last 5 digits were the same, but they might as well 
have
been different.  Made it impossible to get software service 
electronically.
IIRC, Larry B. and others on the list gave me the information I needed to
escalate the problem to get it resolved.

Bottom line, hopefully IBM's record keeping is better now, but I would 
make
ABSOLUTELY certain that the serial number on the machine match IBM's
records.
