I think that's irrelevant. The more important question should be is how
many people are proficient in UIM vs. ILE RPG?

A few years back, I was put through the grinder because I took initiative
and wrote a simple new application in RPGLE. The only other experienced
coder there had been there for 17 years, and he essentially set the
"standard" because he knew the completely undocumented system like the back
of his hand. Even though I had offered to show him how easy it was to
convert, all I was told was to "convert" that app back to RPG-III. Bleahh.
Talk about job security.

To answer your question, no, because ILE RPG has been around long enough to
be a standard in its own right, and there are easy ways to convert RPG-III
code into RPG-IV, and there are FAR far more RPG-IV programmers than there
are people who know how to code UIM.

At this point in time, I think I would rather our group spend time learning
the stuff that will move us away from green screen. We are implementing
Mapics XA this year and some of that is no longer using green screen; I
think it uses Websphere.
