Rick -
I haven't any experience with CFORIA, but ASNA has thousands of customers.
I am an ASNA customer and ASNA Visual RPG for .NET developer, and I have
good experience dealing with their products, including DataGate, for
approximately three years.

DataGate is a very stable database engine that ASNA developed long ago and
has been through several versions. It is considerably faster than ODBC/JDBC
database access. Their ASNA Visual RPG programming language allows
record-level access using RPG file operation codes with DataGate. One of
the big advantages of AVR and DataGate is that your database can reside on
your local PC, a SQL server database, or on the AS/400 - iSeries, so you're
not necessarily bound to the AS/400 - iSeries box as the database server for
this application.
