OK here is what I know after speaking to the supportline folks late yesterday.

First off the entire problem was with V5R3 (which nobody bothered to mention in the first place.....)
There is a new hiper group out (hiper15) for V5R3 which solves the problem.

The Problem? Well if you had an i5 and you did NOT have your HMC connected to HMC port 1 and you put on one of the earlier hipers you could get hosed up (as in lose contact with your system). The specific PTF you i5 people want is MH00133 which is one for the FSP and it's on the hiper. IBM is also recommending that you get your HMC up to code level 4.2. And if you are one of those i5 folks withOUT an HMC you were still exposed and should get this hiper group installed. The Hiper was posted yesterday in the Group PTF page http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/sline003.NSF/GroupPTFs?OpenView&Start=1&Count=30&Expand=1#1 but didn't actually show up in Fix central until this morning.

In the future when posting 'DON'T DO THIS' sorts of things (like don't apply PTFs) I ask that you please be as specific as possible. It would have been nice to know that this was a V5R3 hiper/cume issue from the start.

Well, http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/sline003.nsf/554c38c4848b77f2862567bd0046e003/ffdebc8d8fee5adc86256ea000633eb4?OpenDocument has changed. It looks like they added 4 PTF's dated 9/14.

Have the problems they were having with PTF's been fixed? How can you tell?
