You're correct. If the problem persists Michael may very well have to
close the SQL session on the VB side.  But, it will be a lot easier to
trace the PJ job rather then the BCI job to see if this is true.  

It is up to Michael, but as a matter of course he may want to put some
form of timer in his VB app that closes the connection automatically.
If no event takes place for, say, 5 minutes then his VB app closes the
connection and reopens it on the next event.

That might not solve the problem. You're assuming that the connection is
closed on the VB side. If it's not, the QZDASOINIT job will stay active
since the PC never closes the connection and the problem will persist.
