The specs for Cat5 when used in place of twinax is to have a seperate drop per device, no daisy chaining.
That's not to say it won't work... Your mileage may very.

I'm thinking the tech that is questioning this is thinking you're running
ethernet. I'm assuming there are baluns on each end. Should be fine. Daisy
chaining the way twinax works.

Hi Folks,

We had an IBM 6408-009 printer die at one of our distribution centers. It
is
more than likely a twin-ax card that has failed per a tech and they are
getting a new one to replace it tomorrow. In talking he said he had talked
to a cohort (this is not IBM) and was describing the cabling setup we have.
It is:

Wall Jack - Cat 5 to Terminal - Cat 5 to Printer

And this person told him that it was not recommended to use Cat 5 in a
daisy-chain setup like this and this could cause a problem.

This printer has been in place for over a year this way with no problem and
the one before that (a 4234) was hooked up that way for 4 years.

Just wondering what others felt about this.

We could easily run the Cat 5 to the printer FIRST (they sit right next to
each other).

Thanks,

Chuck
