And don't forget that the * name was changed in 1976 (in the USA at least) to Nathan. This was due to the 200th celebration of the American Revolution. The powers that be decided to rename special characters to the names of special characters in history. This one was changed to this particular name because of Nathan Hale's famous phrase: I regret that I have but one asterisk for my country.
