I ran into a catch 22 yesterday. I was having an issue that required me to stop the Database server. I used the iSeries Navigator interface to do this. No problem, right click on the ICON, select "stop". I then wanted to restart it again. I right clicked on the Database Server ICON and selected "start". I immediately received an error indicating that I should call my next level of support for help because errors were encountered with the Database server. The Database server didn't start either! I fiddled around with it a bit and then called SupportLine. We got a DB support person on the line with us and finally came to this conclusion. The iSeries Navigator server interface uses the Database server to query control files on the server. If it isn't active you can't use it. Isn't that special! I went to a command line from my green screen and entered the STRHOSTSVR... Everything came up just fine. Wouldn't it have been nice to NOT have had a START option on the Database Server ICON in iSeries Navigator interface or at least sent a message indicating that the Database server had to be started using the STRHOSTSVR command from a command line? I think I'll submit a Design Change Request to IBM asking them to fix this issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Kenneth **************************************** Kenneth E.
