Yes, the version of DB2 on the iSeries is tied to the OS.  Thus, v5r3 is
the
current version of DB2 UDB for iSeries.  The only way to upgrade DB2 is

upgrade the OS.

BUT, the there is no relation between the version numbers of DB2 for
iSeries
and DB2 for Windows/Linux & UNIX.
