How you do this - lots of choices.
You can give certain profiles an initial pgm to transfer them from QINTER
on signon. You can have the named screen come up in that subsystem
as it starts up. Check out Add Work Station Entry (ADDWSE)
and the AT parameter. (DSPSBSD QINTER to see existing entries).

Depending on how you do it, you may then need ensure that the new
subsystem is scheduled to start before the mighty QINTER acquires all
devices.
Of course, if they sign onto QINTER and are transferred to the new one
after this,
it's not a problem.

As for why - we keep one for IT so we can take down
the company & still keep delivering fixes.

Often sites want one application down for backup, without locks.
Killing one interactive sbs & keeping the others up does that.
And performance can be an issue; only start the ones you need.
Also some users may need a smaller signon screen; e.g. for forklift trucks.
In which case the display file needs *PUBLIC *USE or the creator
gets very embarrassed on going live as everyone disables themselves
trying to sign in : )
