We did an upgrade from an 820 (LPAR) to 810 (LPAR) last year. The OS was upgraded to V5R3 prior to the 810 move and it went fairly smooth. We use BRMS and if you have it, you have to follow the instructions for recovery and not the non-BRMS recovery instructions.

We currently have a model 820 (v4r5), purchased in 2001. We're looking to
upgrade it (probably forklift) to a new I5 or P10 class machine, v5r3. What from your experience is involved in the transition from one machine to
the other? Are IBM practices for this kind of upgrade pretty standard?
