Getting rid of the locks is easy--you just end the subsytem that they're running in! It's a bit drastic I know but you didn't specify the conditions at the time you wanted to kill the lock or how badly you wanted it to be killed. If this is the case of a backup I would recommend save-while-active. Al Barsa is the guru of SWA. We started using it last fall and it's knocked a coulple hours off of our down time for a backup. We boot everybody off, get the system to a (semi-)restricted state, initiate the save, and once a checkpoint has been achieved you can let them back on. The system handles backing up any objects that get changed to their status as of the checkpoint time. See below. I have looked at the obvious wrkobjlck in a CL program, but use of it to get the jobs & end them in a CL program was not too obvious. What methods do you all use to accomplish this? Original Question: >> Is there a way to break all object locks on a file? This would be used in batch jobs (CL) before an update program (RPG) or perhaps a backup is run. Reply: >> End all the jobs that have a lock on the file. Do it all the time in our backups.
