In V5R3 IBM has more fully integrated CCSID into various other parts of the system. Especially items like CPYTOIMPF and that genre. In order to avoid changing numerous programs I have changed the system value QCCSID from 65535 to 37. Turns out we've been running this way for quite some time on our development machine so the test is 'done'. This might even help people downloading data and stuff. They might not have to remember to turn on that flag that says to convert CCSID 65535. Now, some existing data files will still have that issue, unless they are recreated. Any Queries that are modified will pop up a message "The CCSID will be changed from 65535 to 37." I am sure that our users will understand. Don't you? NOT! But hopefully the message will only appear for Queries that output to a disk file. And that, generally falls more under the systems realm. Department, in case you are wondering why you were bcc'd it is because I thought I'd share this with the fine folks at midrange-l also.
