Classic problem solving. Short term corrective action: Restart the process manually. Look at an automatic restart. Long term corrective action: Stop the hang in the first place. For the short term corrective action: You might look at associating a data queue with the output queue and monitoring that. Failing that, an api to retrieve the status of spool files associated with that output queue that fires off every 30 minutes and performs corrective action if a 'hang' occurs might be a good idea. Long term corrective action: I'll leave that up to our esteemed colleagues. What happens is that Periodically, usually after a large spool file, it hangs there. The spool file stays in *SND status, and thus doesn't let the next spools print. I would like to write a program that would check the status of the first spool file, if it has been in SND status for more than 30 minutes, put it on hold. Of course, the only problem w/ my brilliant idea, is if the paper is out, but I would rather deal w/ that than having to go into this outq 30 times a day and getting calls while having my haircut for example.
