Green screen, web, EJBs, Web Services, not bad for a product relagated to the toy basement. And that's the 2E (iSeries native) product. Want full cross platform, take a look at Plex (what Synon called Obsydian). Also in that "toy basement" at CA, but has code generation for iSeries, Java, Windows (C++) deployed on HP, Sun, iSeries (obviously), Windows, SQLServer, Oracle, etc. I'm not saying they're perfect (and I'm _not_ a salesperson for them), but I think they deserve to be looked at. -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President & CEO Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur. I remember Synon as well. The Lansa model seems somewhat similar, however hopefully Lansa won't get relegated to the unwanted toy basement of Computer Associates as Synon was :-) Regards, Richard Schoen RJS Software Systems Inc. My criticism then, though may not be relevant now, was that it was marketed as a management reporting tool. It was so complex, probably because it was so powerful, that we had an experienced analyst-programmer working on it almost full-time. The knowledge of the structure of DB2/400 was a key factor in getting to grips with it, and being a programmer reduced quite a steep learning curve. The internal auditors used it, but insisted on Query/400 to validate their results! I was once, for my sins, a Lansa Administrator - I never had to create programs with it. It was quite easy to manage, configure etc. I had previously worked in a Synon shop, and the levels of praise and complaint among the developers was about the same. -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
