I don't. On the _very_ rare occurrence that I want to send mail from the
iSeries we use a sockets program that connects to our Exchange box on
port 25 and relays.

I think that MUA->MTA is the "common" use, but I do know it's usable
between MTAs as well. Again I'm an Exchange guy, but in Exchange we can
define outbound security on the SMTP server(s) using either Anonymous,
Basic or Integrated security, with an option for TLS encryption on each.
