Mike,

Regarding your "renaming" requirements, how you do this will vary based upon
whether
this is being done on the FTP "client" side or FTP "server" side. The truth
is, if you
are looking to have the file named based upon the currenet date, you'll
probably need
some sort of shell or CL program to execute which does this for you. You would
"execute"
your shell program or CL from within the automated script.

Thinking this through as I type, given that the file will be "renamed" it is
probably
best to do this at the "remote" site as doing so on the local site makes your
script
a little more challenging (as it would need to know the new name).

I've got a generic STRFTP command that allows you to provide the FTP
subcommands "on
the fly", if you're interested.

Subject: Automating a FTP

I have a script file that handles ftp'ing a file from our Iseries to a
3rd party. There is now a request to change the file name when it it
sent. Currently the file is something like this RGCCS00H and we
perform a 'Put RGCCS00H RGCCS00H.txt. Now they would like the file with
the current date in the name something like RGH062104.txt.
I'm not sure if or how I can automate this in my script.
Any ideas?
