Richard,

The answer is Yep, we're using five of their applications and Yep, HTE
is difficult to deal with because of a few of things: IMO, they are not
a mature software vendor when compared to an IBM, Oracle or any vendor
that provides software to mature IT shops, they want you to do business
their way and are inflexible and outmoded when it comes to PTF
distribution, have poor data and code architecture when it comes to
their older products like the Utility Billing (CIS) Package, and are
used to dealing with small government entities wherein they are,
essentially, the customer's help desk and systems programmers. While
the last two are probably good things for cash strapped small
governments, if you have any sophisticated larger shop at all HTE will
still treat you like a small shop wherein you schedule to their schedule
and not the vendor to the customer. They won't even send you PTFs
right away because they "custom" build them for you and it takes about
30 days and they certainly won't send you a later PTF until you have
installed a previous PTF and they have confirmed you have done so. In
addition, they tell you when they are available to put in the PTF so
they can schedule some of their resources to be on call. These are
but examples. In all my 30+ years in information technology, I have
NEVER seen a vendor so restrictive, so antiquated, so controlling and so
condescending.

They have in recent years offered a web version of most of their
software called NaviLine. The first versions appear to be something
like "screen scrapes" but latest versions are supposed to be better.

Are there some good people at HTE... yes. Do they need to become a
more mature software house if they choose to play with the big boys
(larger customers)... yes.

Take care,

Dave

Hello All,

I am wondering if any of you out there are using HTE software and find

these people (as a vendor) very difficult to work with ?

We have tried to work with them to interface our products with their
product, but they basically have no interest in talking to anyone who's

not an HTE vendor or who isn't willing to first give up their firstborn

child.

Are we alone in this type of treatment from HTE or is this the norm for

them as a vendor ?

Any comments appreciated.

Regards,
