Actually, the emulation is an additional product, it isn't built in.
But, that being said, I don't know if they charge for it or not. There is
also
no upgrade path for it, what's installed is what's installed. We've had
scanners
come back from service with newer versions on them, but can't get intermec
to
send us a disk! (It is simple enough to push the newer file to the older
scanners
though, so its not a real big deal.)

I do know they charge for the 5250 keyboard overlays so that you can
actually
tell what the keys are. :) (These are at least available for the 2425, not
sure about
the 2415)

FWIW, the latest versions of the emulator have a configurable screen size,
from 16X?? to 26X30 (or so) and a lot of in betweens. This might also be
dependant
on the scanner model as well. This "size" is the viewport size, the actual
screen
size is still 80X25. (There are keys mapped to the cursors so you can scroll
around,
not that you'd want to, but you can access anything you can access from any
terminal.)

There are also a few minor settings that have to be configured that aren't
on
by default when the scanner ships.(One of the most annoying trys to
left-align
the viewport with the currently active field, which can cause the display to
skip around a lot if the fields aren't all left-aligned.)

We use Intermec 2415 hand held scanners for a WMS system.
These scanners have built in 5250 emulation.
You code the programs as you do for normally.
When we do the DDS we limit the display to the 16 rows by
20 cols (from memory). All is coded in RPG III.
Works fine, connected to a RF device
on a TCP-IP network.
