I think the reason was that they couldn't be restored "exactly".  A given
spool file isn't an object anywhere in the system.

The links between the spool file and the job are lost.  Of course, now you
can actually detach the spool files from a job using the SPLFACN(*DETACH)
param of the CHGJOB command.

There's some other attributes of the restored spool file that get lost, but
I don't remember and details.  You might google the newsgroup for a post
from Rodney as I believe that's where I saw the info.
