There are a number of valid reasons not to build it in.  First of all, you
can theoretically use one HMC to control up to four systems.  Secondly, IBM
is trying to get into a position where and same HMC could theoretically be
shipped for "i", "p" and "z".

Why not just build the damned thing in? Or better yet: if some sort of
operator's console is required, why not use a cheap, reliable, text-mode
console that speaks EBCDIC natively. You know, a TERMINAL??

And don't ya just love how, on a V5R3 box, whenevery you go into PDM
and/or SEU, you get a nagging little message telling you how much better
some new client-server development widget is?  -- THBBBBB!  --  Almost as
bad as the way Microsloth Weird's aggressive spell-checker always assumes
it knows what you're talking about better than you do!
