hello, have been away for a bit, but glad to say I'm back and _employed_ and resubbed and such... anyway, looking for a good way to duplicate tapes to optical, whether a product or utility or just advice - so, here's a bit about the requirement... need to duplicate a bunch of old QIC (it's going away...) tapes containing month and year end saves from the past onto optical while DUPTAP can be used to get to our new tape format, this is old data which is supposed to stay around for a long time and the desire is to instead put them on lower cost, more durable media if possible, we'd like it to be as close to a DUPTAP as possible, meaning that it would preserve the save information including dates in other discussion, David has suggested dumping the tape, then churning through restoring and saving each object (which would add a new save date) and adding a file containing the original save information to the optical - he was even gracious enough to forward RPG replacements for the PL/I DUPTAPIN and DUPTAPOUT utility programs in QUSRTOOL - these were used to simulate DUPTAP on a box with only one tape drive and so could make creating something like this easier just wondering if there's an easier way, and especially something which preserves the dates, and is preferably a fairly simple process like DUPTAP thanks in advance, --Jerome Hughes
