Steve, I suggest taking this to the Edge User Group Listserv where you will get more response. If you know anyone going to CA World next week in Los Vegas, you could have them raise it there as well. I raised it at last year's Edge USA conference. Visit http://www.edgeusergroup.org/advan2e/. The origin of the problem is that Synon and Sterling truly "sold" you 2e, so licensing was perpetual as long as you stayed on the same machine. CA has no product category that is perpetually licensed, so when they picked up 2e, they made the licensing annual by default. It is not supposed to be connected to your maintenance contract, but again, by default I think they link it to the maintenance contract cycle. If you don't pay maintenance, you can't get new releases, but you still should be able to run the product since you own it. Don't let CA off the hook. I doubt CA will "disappear," but your point is valid. We pay maintenance, but do not like having to get the license keys refreshed annually. We became a "squeaky wheel" on this issue and as a result, got satisfactory response. --Chapin Kaynor Vermont, USA PS By the way, 2e is being rebranded yet again. The naming of 2e has gone from "Synon" to "COOL" to "Jasmine" to "Advantage" and now to "AllFusion!" > > date: Mon, 10 May 2004 07:17:31 -0500 > from: "Steve Landess" <sjl_123@xxxxxxxxxxx> > subject: Fw: ADVANTAGE 2E (SYNON) and CA authorization code policy > > I found this on the comp.sys.ibm.as400.misc newsgroup - > > Sent: Friday, May 07, 2004 4:53 AM > Subject: ADVANTAGE 2E (SYNON) and CA authorization code policy > > > > Here in Spain we are having a problem with Computer Associates > > authorization code policy for ADVANTAGE 2E, formerly COOL 2E and SYNON 2E. > > > > If you do not pay the yearly maintenance you do not get the next year > > authorization codes, even if you do not upgrade or move the licenced > product > > to another machine.
