If you have an SNMP manager up and running in your network, setup the SNMP
agent on the iSeries and poll the following MIB strings:

system.sysDescr.0 = IBM OS/400 V4R4M0
system.sysName.0 = SYSTEM.NAME.COM

The entry after the '=' is what the iSeries returns for the MIB string
(before the '=' sign) it processed.  If your have access to Linux you can
test/poll the iSeries with the SNMPWALK command. 

As for the hardware, the only thing I am aware of that you could use is the
four digit number stored in the system value QPRCFEAT.  This will return the
four digit number assigned for the interactive feature code you have on the
system.
