I guess it's now okay to discuss V5R3 since the InfoCenter is public (assuming
you can get through to it -- access seems just a tad slow today.)

The Memo to Users is _required_ reading for upgrades to V5R3. There are
elements of the upgrade process itself that need preparation, unless planning
is irrelevant in your environment.

Beyond required items, there are areas I'd recommend reviewing. Two that come
to mind:

If you haven't run CVTDIR to convert to *TYPE2 directories yet, get it started.
Note this paragraph:

"Shortly after V5R3 is installed, the system will automatically begin
converting any file systems that currently support *TYPE1 directories to *TYPE2
directories. This conversion should not significantly impact your system
activity, as it will run in a low priority background job."

Although the impact may be minimal, it might be enough to irritate you.
Further, the conversion process can change the behavior of RCLSTG while
conversion is active.

Also, because of the significant changes to [time] support, review all sections
in the Memo regarding time and carefully consider the section that says:

"If you want to define the time zone for a server before you install V5R3, you
should create a data area named QWCTIMZON in the QSYS library."

I definitely recommend (1) creating this *dtaara before you forget it, soon
after reading its description in the Memo and (2) _verifying_ your time-related
system values and your time-zone settings immediately after the upgrade -- one
or two details aren't exactly clear until you see the result according to the
new Work with Time Zone Desc (WRKTIMZON) command, especially as it relates to
daylight-savings time. Neverthe less, pretty cool stuff.

Get the Memo PDF downloaded and start reading.
